“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction… Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life.”

The world offers us countless roads.
We are told to follow our hearts, create our own truth, pursue whatever makes us happy, and define life according to our own desires.
The broad road rarely looks dangerous.
That is part of what makes it so deceptive.
It can look successful, comfortable, popular, and completely normal. Many people may be walking beside us, reassuring us that because everyone is traveling in the same direction, the destination must be safe.
Then Jesus Christ gives us a warning that challenges everything the world tells us.
There are two roads.
One is broad.
One is narrow.
And they do not lead to the same destination.
Jesus Christ did not describe the narrow road to frighten people away from God. He spoke the truth because eternity matters.
The Gospel is not merely an invitation to add Jesus Christ to the life we have already chosen for ourselves. Jesus calls us to repentance, faith, surrender, and a new life in Him.
That can be difficult in a culture that celebrates self above surrender.
The world says, “Follow yourself.”
Jesus Christ says, “Follow me.”
The world says truth is whatever we decide it should be.
Jesus Christ declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
The world tells us that almost any road will eventually lead somewhere good.
Scripture tells us otherwise.
There was a time in my own life when I wandered. I knew about Jesus Christ, yet knowing about Him and faithfully walking with Him were not the same thing.
The farther we travel down our own road, the easier it can become to convince ourselves that we are doing fine.
Until we discover that the things we thought would satisfy us cannot carry the weight of our souls.
Achievement cannot save us.
Possessions cannot save us.
Religion without genuine faith cannot save us.
Being considered a good person cannot save us.
Only Jesus Christ can save.
That is why the narrow road is ultimately a message of hope.
If you have been traveling in the wrong direction, you do not have to keep going simply because you have already traveled a long distance.
There is another way.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth came into this world, lived without sin, gave His life upon the cross for our sins, and rose from the grave. Through repentance and faith in Him, sinners can be forgiven and reconciled to God.
The narrow road is not about earning salvation through perfect behavior.
It is about belonging to Jesus Christ and following Him.
There will be moments when following Him means standing apart from the crowd. There will be things we must surrender. There will be truths we must accept even when the culture rejects them.
But look at where the road leads.
Life.
Perhaps you have wandered.
Perhaps you have spent years searching.
Perhaps you have wondered whether it is too late to turn around.
It is not.
The invitation of Jesus Christ still stands.
There are two roads.
Choose carefully which one you travel.
There is another way.
And that way leads to Jesus Christ.
